Elevate a childhood classic with crispy bacon and sweet, rich caramelized onions in this gourmet grilled cheese sandwich.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of bread
  • 4 slices of cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • 4 strips of bacon
  • 1 large onion
  • Butter
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Instructions

  1. Cook the bacon in a skillet until crispy. Remove and set aside.
  2. Caramelize the onions in the same skillet with a pinch of salt over medium heat for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Butter one side of each slice of bread generously.
  4. Build the sandwich by layering cheese, cooked bacon, and caramelized onions on the non-buttered side of two slices.
  5. Top with another slice of cheese and the remaining bread slices, buttered side out.
  6. Grill the sandwiches over medium heat until the bread is golden and the cheese is melted, about 4-5 minutes per side.
  7. Slice the sandwiches in half and serve immediately hot.

Notes
