A juicy and flavorful whole chicken cooked upright on the grill with a beer can for added moisture and flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 whole chicken
  • 1 can of beer (12 oz)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon dried herbs (like thyme or rosemary)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat (about 375°F).
  2. Mix together the olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and dried herbs to create a savory seasoning rub.
  3. Pat the chicken dry and rub the seasoning all over the chicken.
  4. Open the can of beer and take a few sips to make it easier to use.
  5. Place the beer can inside the cavity of the chicken.
  6. Set the chicken upright on the grill grates, balancing it on the beer can.
  7. Close the grill lid and cook for about 1-1.5 hours, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  8. Remove from the grill, let rest for 10-15 minutes, then carefully remove the can, carve, and serve.

Notes

For extra flavor, marinate the chicken in the seasoning rub the day before. Ensure the chicken rests after grilling for juiciness.
