A comforting and delicious one-pan meal featuring chicken sausage, vibrant broccoli, and hearty orzo pasta.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb chicken sausage, sliced into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the pan: In a large pan, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Sauté the chicken sausage: Add the sliced chicken sausage and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  3. Sauté onions and garlic: In the same pan, add chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion is translucent and fragrant, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Toast the orzo: Add the orzo to the pan and stir to coat with the onion and garlic mixture. Cook for 2 minutes, allowing the orzo to toast slightly.
  5. Combine with broth and broccoli: Pour in the chicken broth and add the broccoli florets. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and let it simmer for 8-10 minutes, or until the orzo and broccoli are tender.
  6. Stir in the sausage: Stir the cooked chicken sausage back into the pan.
  7. Mix in cheese and oregano: Add the grated Parmesan cheese and dried oregano. Mix well until the cheese is melted and everything is combined.
  8. Season to taste: Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes to taste.
  9. Serve and enjoy: Serve immediately, garnished with additional Parmesan cheese if desired.

Notes

For a touch of spice, add more red pepper flakes or a splash of hot sauce. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for up to a month.
