A beloved chicken shawarma recipe featuring marinated chicken infused with spices, served with crispy vegetables and creamy garlic sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb chicken thighs or breasts
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons ground paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Pita bread or wraps
  • Lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumber for serving
  • 1/2 cup garlic sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Mix olive oil, cumin, paprika, turmeric, coriander, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl to create a marinade.
  2. Coat the chicken with the marinade and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Cook the chicken for about 5–7 minutes on each side until it has beautiful grill marks and is fully cooked.
  5. Remove from heat and let the chicken rest for a few minutes, then slice.
  6. Warm pita bread or wraps, then assemble with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, and sliced chicken.
  7. Drizzle garlic sauce on top and serve.

Notes

For the best flavor, marinate the chicken overnight. If using chicken breasts, monitor cooking closely to prevent drying out.
