  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk, warmed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup vanilla custard

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a large bowl, mix warm milk and sugar, then add yeast and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Combine ingredients: Mix in melted butter and eggs, folding them gently into the activated yeast mixture until well blended.
  3. Knead the dough: Gradually add flour and salt; knead until smooth.
  4. Let it rise: Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
  5. Fold in the chocolate: Punch down the dough gently and then fold in the chocolate chips.
  6. Shape and fill: Divide dough into small balls and fill each with a generous dollop of custard.
  7. Second rise: Place the filled balls in a greased baking pan and let rise again for 30 minutes.
  8. Bake to perfection: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to a month. Reheat in the oven for best results.
