  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional, such as pecans or walnuts)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Sea salt for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Line a 10×15-inch baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper.
  3. Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the baking sheet.
  4. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  5. Add the packed brown sugar and stir until boiling. Boil for 3 minutes without stirring.
  6. Pour the butter and sugar mixture over the saltine crackers.
  7. Bake in the oven for 5-7 minutes, until bubbly and caramelized.
  8. Remove from the oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot toffee.
  9. Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the toffee.
  10. Sprinkle chopped nuts and a touch of sea salt over the chocolate layer if desired.
  11. Cool to room temperature and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  12. Break into pieces and enjoy!
