Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet instant yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup whole milk (warm)
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 large eggs (beaten)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 3 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 4 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 tablespoons milk (to achieve desired consistency)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough: In a large bowl, mix warm milk with melted butter, sugar, and instant yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Then, stir in the beaten eggs and vanilla extract.
  2. Add the dry ingredients: Incorporate the all-purpose flour and salt into the wet mixture. Stir until the dough forms and pull together into a ball.
  3. Knead the dough: Flour a clean surface and transfer the dough. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. First rise: Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
  5. Make the filling: In a small bowl, combine brown sugar and ground cinnamon. Set it aside while the dough rises.
  6. Roll and slice: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Spread the softened butter over the surface, followed by the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Roll the dough into a tight log and slice it into 12 equal pieces.
  7. Second rise: Place the sliced rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let them rise for another 30 minutes until they puff up.
  8. Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Prepare the frosting: While the rolls are baking, mix the softened cream cheese, softened butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and enough milk for a smooth consistency.
  10. Top and serve: Once the cinnamon rolls have cooled slightly, drizzle generously with the cream cheese frosting before serving.
