A simple and delicious cornbread recipe that’s perfect for pairing with chili or soups.

  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease a 9-inch square baking pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, stir together the cornmeal, all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well mixed.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, vegetable oil, and egg until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, gently stirring until just combined.
  5. Carefully pour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve with butter or honey. Store in an airtight container for up to three days.
