Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C) to get it nice and hot for our biscuits.
  2. Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until fully integrated.
  3. Cut in the cold, cubed butter and mix until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Mix in the buttermilk until just combined; avoid overmixing.
  5. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until it’s smooth.
  6. Roll out the dough to about 1 inch thick and cut into rounds.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  8. Serve warm with butter or jam.

Notes

Use cold butter for proper rising and consider adding cheese or herbs for variations.
