An indulgent breakfast that combines crème brûlée and French toast, topped with a crispy caramelized sugar crust.

Ingredients

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 8 slices of thick bread (such as brioche or challah)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined.
  2. Arrange the slices of thick bread in a baking dish and pour the egg mixture over the bread.
  3. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  4. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Bake the French toast for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and set.
  6. Remove from the oven and sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the top.
  7. Using a kitchen torch, caramelize the brown sugar until it forms a crispy crust.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving.
  9. Enjoy with fresh fruit or maple syrup!

Notes

For best results, use day-old bread and don’t skip the refrigeration step. Feel free to experiment with different toppings.
