  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (optional)
  • Chocolate ganache or frosting for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for about 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in the boiling water and fold in chocolate chips if desired.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Cool for 10 minutes in the pans before transferring to wire racks.
  8. Frost with chocolate ganache or your favorite frosting once cooled.
