A simple and delicious traditional fry bread recipe that brings warmth and comfort to your table.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3/4 cup water (add more if needed)

Instructions

  1. Combine the Dry Ingredients: Mix together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar until well blended.
  2. Add the Wet Ingredients: Pour in the vegetable oil and water, then mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes.
  4. Heat the Oil: In a frying pan, heat oil over medium heat until shimmering.
  5. Shape the Dough: Pinch off pieces of dough and flatten them into discs about 1/2 inch thick.
  6. Fry the Bannock: Carefully place each disc in the hot oil, frying until golden brown on both sides.
  7. Drain and Serve: Remove the Bannock and drain them on paper towels. Serve warm.

Notes

Top with honey, butter, or serve alongside stews and soups for a hearty meal. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature.
