  • 1.75 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 0.5 cups vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, then add milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Blend until well combined.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the bowl of dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  5. Carefully stir in the boiling water to achieve a thin batter.
  6. Evenly pour the batter into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes.
  7. Once baked, let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  8. Once completely cooled, frost as desired and serve.
