Transform plain eggs into delicious soy sauce eggs with a simple marinade that enhances their flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large eggs (Fresh eggs for best texture)
  • ½ cup soy sauce (Use low-sodium if preferred)
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (Optional for extra flavor)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (Adjust to taste)
  • Green onions (For garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (For garnish)

Instructions

  1. Boil the eggs by bringing a pot of water to a gentle boil. Carefully lower the eggs into the bubbling water and simmer for 6-7 minutes for soft yolks or longer for firmer texture. Transfer to an ice bath.
  2. Prepare the soy sauce mixture by combining soy sauce, water, sesame oil (if using), and sugar in a bowl. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Peel and marinate the eggs. Gently peel them under running water, place in a sealable container, and pour the soy sauce mixture over, ensuring eggs are submerged. Seal and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  4. Garnish and serve by removing eggs from marinade, cutting in half, drizzling with sauce, and sprinkling with green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

For best flavor, marinate overnight. Fresh eggs peel easier, and low-sodium soy sauce is recommended for better taste control.
