A delightful twist on traditional strawberry shortcake, these sandwiches meld creamy cheesecake with fresh strawberries, all enveloped in a crispy, golden crust.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 4 slices of bread
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Mix the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract in a bowl until smooth.
  2. Spread the cream cheese mixture on two slices of bread. Top with sliced strawberries and cover with remaining slices.
  3. Combine milk, flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl to create the batter.
  4. Dip each sandwich into the batter, ensuring it’s fully coated.
  5. Coat the battered sandwiches in breadcrumbs.
  6. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  7. Fry the sandwiches until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  8. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
  9. Serve warm, optionally dusted with powdered sugar.

Notes

These sandwiches are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 1 day in the refrigerator.
