A delightful dessert featuring golden kataifi pastry filled with gooey mozzarella and drenched in sweet floral syrup, perfect for celebrations.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound kataifi pastry
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 pound mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon rose water
  • 1 tablespoon orange blossom water
  • 1/2 cup crushed pistachios

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Combine the kataifi pastry with the melted butter in a large bowl.
  3. Spread half of the buttery kataifi mixture into the bottom of a baking dish.
  4. Add an even layer of shredded mozzarella cheese over the kataifi.
  5. Top with the remaining kataifi pastry and press down gently.
  6. Bake for 30-40 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Combine sugar and water in a saucepan and bring to a gentle boil for about 10 minutes to make syrup.
  8. Remove from heat and stir in rose and orange blossom waters.
  9. Pour the hot syrup over the warm Knafeh to let the flavors seep in.
  10. Cool slightly and garnish with crushed pistachios before serving.

Notes

Knafeh pairs well with mint tea or Arabic coffee. Serve warm for best texture.
