A flavorful and comforting Mexican shredded beef recipe perfect for tacos, ideal for gatherings and family meals.

  • 3 lbs chuck roast or brisket (cut into large chunks)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 large onion (diced)
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tbsp ground cumin
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp lime juice
  • Corn or flour tortillas for serving
  • Fresh toppings (cilantro, diced tomatoes, onions, avocado, etc.)

Instructions

  1. Sear the beef by heating the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season with salt and pepper, then add to the hot skillet.
  2. Sauté the onion and garlic in the same skillet for about 2-3 minutes until the onion is translucent.
  3. Combine the beef with the onions and garlic, adding in cumin, chili powder, and smoked paprika.
  4. Add beef broth and lime juice, stirring to combine the mixture.
  5. Simmer on low heat for about 3 hours (stovetop) or 4 hours (slow cooker) until the beef is tender.
  6. Shred the beef with two forks and return it to the pot, mixing with the juices.
  7. Prepare the tortillas by warming them in a skillet or oven.
  8. Assemble your tacos with shredded beef and toppings of choice.

Notes

For additional flavor, customize your toppings and adjust spices to your liking. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
