A comforting dish of layered scalloped potatoes with savory ham and gooey cheese, perfect for gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds potatoes, sliced
  • 2 cups cooked ham, diced
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Start by greasing your baking dish. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the dish, fanning them out to create a lovely base.
  3. Next, evenly distribute half of the diced ham, chopped onion, and shredded cheese over the potatoes.
  4. Sprinkle salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika over this first layer.
  5. Now, layer the remaining sliced potatoes, followed by the rest of the diced ham, onion, and cheese.
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk together the heavy cream and milk until well combined.
  7. Evenly pour the cream and milk mixture over the layered ingredients in the baking dish.
  8. Dot the top with small pieces of butter.
  9. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 1 hour.
  10. After an hour, carefully remove the foil and return the dish to the oven. Bake for an additional 20-30 minutes until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
  11. Let the dish rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For best results, use starchy potatoes like Russets or Yukon Golds. You can also experiment with cheese varieties and add vegetables or herbs for a twist.
