Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 1/4 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, pureed
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by combining warm milk, yeast, and 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar in a bowl. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Whisk the flour, remaining sugar, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Create the wet mixture by beating the eggs with melted butter and vanilla extract in a separate bowl.
  4. Combine the yeast mixture and egg mixture with the flour mixture and stir until a soft dough forms.
  5. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. Let the dough rise in a greased bowl for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  7. Shape the donuts by rolling out the dough and cutting it with a donut cutter.
  8. Fry the donuts in hot oil for about 1 minute per side until golden brown.
  9. Make the glaze by whisking together pureed strawberries, powdered sugar, and lemon juice.
  10. Glaze the cooled donuts by dipping them into the strawberry glaze.
