  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter

  5. Add the eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla extract to the batter and mix well.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly.
  7. Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  8. While the cake bakes, prepare the frosting by combining butter, cocoa powder, and milk in a saucepan and bringing to a gentle boil.
  9. Remove from heat and whisk in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth.
  10. Pour the warm frosting over the cake as soon as it comes out of the oven.
